Community Well-being
We heard from people living in Basin communities that it’s important to help communities achieve their unique aspirations with flexible and proactive support from the Trust.
The Trust is working with communities to help them address their needs and adapt to changes; provide opportunities and resources for people of all ages, such as children and seniors, and those facing barriers like poverty and isolation; and create strong assets like non-profits that address community needs, energy-efficient community buildings, well-built and -managed recreational trails, low barrier recreation infrastructure and opportunities in arts, culture and heritage.
Arts, Culture and Heritage
Life in the Basin is celebrated with vibrant arts and culture. We provide funding and support through various programs and partner with the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance to deliver some of these.
We have partnered with other organizations around the Basin that can provide your organization with additional support.
- The Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance. They provide valuable support, including grants, grant writing workshops, the Columbia Basin Culture Tour, support for applicants, as well as serving as the voice for Arts Councils in the region.
- In 2018, the Trust purchased the iconic Creston grain elevators to help preserve the region’s history and share it with future generations.

Social Initiatives
We envision a region where all Basin residents and communities experience social well-being. This means that non-profits are meeting community needs, people experiencing or at risk of experiencing vulnerabilities have access to support and children, youth, seniors and elders are connected to each other and their communities.
We have partnered with other organizations around the Basin that can provide your organization with additional support, including Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy.

Youth Initiatives
We partner with youth and communities to give youth a range of opportunities and help them engage with their communities and one another.
Through our Basin Youth Network, we help communities increase local activities and opportunities for youth aged 12 to 18, enabling them to learn new skills, like leadership, and engage more with each other and their communities.
